Brenda Stubbs is supporting the British Lung Foundation's Action Mesothelioma campaign, which will run for a year.

Her husband Ralph died in January, aged 67, less than two years after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Brenda, 58, said: "It is heartbreaking to watch them just slowly disappear to a skeleton.

It is shocking to watch someone you love.

"Ralph went downhill very fast.

At Christmas, he went to church and was walking around.

Straight after that, he did not have any strength." Ralph, whose career as an engineering officer included time working in a dockyard and for the merchant navy, was initially diagnosed with tuberculosis in South Africa in February 2003.

He was given medication, but in February 2004 doctors told him he actually had mesothelioma.
