She was 44.

Reeve, who was diagnosed with the disease in August, died last night, said Maggie Goldberg, spokeswoman for the Christopher Reeve Foundation.

Reeve was chairwoman of the foundation and founder of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center.

Christopher Reeve, best known for his portrayal of ``Superman'' in four movies, was paralyzed from the neck down after he fell from a horse in 1995.

The couple started the paralysis research, treatment and support organization as he learned to live as a quadriplegic.
